Grandma’s Molasses Cookies

Ingredients

  1. 3/4 cup melted shortening
  2. 1 cup sugar
  3. 1 egg
  4. 1/4 cup molasses
  5. 2 cups Shawnee Best all-purpose flour
  6. 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  7. 1 teaspoon ginger
  8. 2 teaspoons baking soda
  9. additional sugar for coating

2 dozen

An old-fashioned family favorite. Dip them in white chocolate or add an icing of your choice if desired.

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Cream shortening or bacon grease and sugar until light. Add egg, molasses and dry ingredients in order.
  3. Shape dough into one-inch balls and roll in sugar until coated. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Do not flatten.
  4. Bake 10 to 13 minutes until centers crack and edges start to firm. Cool on wire racks
