Beer-Battered Green Beans

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 lb green beans
  2. 5-6 quarts + 3 quarts water
  3. 1 C ice
  4. 3 T + 1 tsp salt
  5. 1 1/4 C Shawnee Best All-Purpose Flour
  6. 1 tsp onion powder
  7. 1 tsp garlic powder
  8. 1 tsp white pepper
  9. 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  10. 10 oz beer
  11. 48 fl oz vegetable oil

It’s time to get on the fried green beans train. This tasty side dish takes you on a journey through the junction of crisp and savory. Can be consumed with a fork, but even more fun with your hands! Add a splash of heat when you dip them in wasabi mayo.

Directions

  1. Pour vegetable oil into the fryer and set the temperature to 400°
  2. In a small bowl, whisk wasabi mustard, mayo, lemon juice, and lemon zest and set aside
  3. Using 5-6 quarts water and 3 T salt bring to a boil 
  4. Wash green beans thoroughly and add to the boiling water for 3-4 minutes 
  5. Create an ice bath with 3 quarts of water, 1 C of ice
  6. Add green beans  to ice bath and remove after 40 seconds with a mesh strainer
  7. Place green beans into a medium bowl and pat dry
  8. In a large bowl, whisk Shawnee Best All-Purpose Flour, onion powder, garlic powder, white pepper, smoked paprika, and salt
  9. Pour 10 oz of beer into the large bowl and whisk 
  10. Dip each green bean into the batter and drop into the fryer for 2 to 3 minutes (make sure not to crowd fryer so that the green beans don’t stick together)
  11. Remove the green beans out of the hot oil and place on a paper towel 

Cool and serve
